Human Factors

Duration :

12 Hrs.

IParticipant and Qualification :

Operating aircraft in cold weather conditions presents significant safety challenges, particularly when ice, snow, or frost contamination is present. Proper de-icing and anti-icing treatments are critical to maintaining aerodynamic performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and safeguarding flight operations. This course provides essential knowledge for personnel responsible for overseeing, auditing, or performing activities related to aircraft ground icing conditions.

Objective :

Designed for:

  • Licensed Aircraft Engineers (LAE) who accompany flights and/or work at stations where ice and snow conditions are present
  • Quality audit staff who perform de-icing audits
  • Proper de-icing and anti-icing treatments are essential in safeguarding flight safety. This course addresses why, how, and when an aircraft must be de-iced or anti-iced while on the ground.
Course Outline :

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1.Understand the effects of ice, snow, and frost contamination on aircraft performance and safety.
2.Explain the regulatory and operational requirements related to aircraft ground icing conditions.
3.Identify when de-icing and anti-icing procedures are required.
4.Describe the correct de-icing and anti-icing methods, fluids, and application procedures.
5.Understand holdover time (HOT) concepts and their operational limitations.
6.Recognize roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in de-icing/anti-icing operations.
7.Conduct or evaluate de-icing operations in accordance with company procedures and audit requirements.
